There is a rhythm to working on the water - one built on experience, hard work and a deep understanding of the tides. This watercolor captures a Lowcountry waterman in the midst of his work, hauling a weathered net iof freshly caught crabs aboard his boat. His worn gloves, weathered clothing, and focused posture tell a story of life shaped by the water. The surrounding marsh, boats nets and moving tide place him firmly in the working Lowcountry.
Through watercolor, I wanted to capture not only this moment of labor, but the character and quiet dignity of the man behind it.
